Japanese Fiber-Optic Subscribers Top Seven 7mln in 3Q, 2006

According to Japan's MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications), Japanese fiber-optic subscribers reached 7.2 million as of the third quarter of 2006. Despite the burgeoning growth of fiber-optic network services, ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) continues to lead in Japan's 25-million broadband subscriber base. In addition, cable Internet subscribers hit 3.5 million, ranking third in the Japanese broadband market, followed by the 10,954 of wireless subscribers.
